In 1994, when I founded Kodiak Construction, I was “the business”, working in the field, being the office support staff and estimator. After some initial success and growth I hired a helper, then two, and now have multiple crews with lead carpenters, administrative support, and sub-contractors. The business has grown solely by word-of-mouth and referrals from satisfied customers.
I began my professional construction training working for a local remodeling contractor during summer breaks while attending college. After graduating with a degree in American History from U.C. Santa Cruz, I returned to my summertime employer, where I continued working for four more years learning all aspects of construction: foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, finish carpentry, and tile setting. During my construction training, I also discovered clients were looking for more than just a nicely completed project; they wanted a process they could understand and follow.
As owner and licensed general contractor, I now use my strong written and oral skills to fulfill my mission of keeping clients informed of the process; from the initial consultation to the sign-off at final inspection. I firmly believe that the cornerstone of a successful project is good communication.
I look forward to speaking with you about your remodeling or ADU ideas.
